EV Cost Calculator is run by one person, not a company or editorial team. I built it to answer a specific question — how much would I actually save switching from a gas car to an EV, given my own mileage and my own state's prices — and couldn't find a calculator that let me plug in those numbers directly.

I'm not an automotive journalist, an energy analyst, or a financial advisor. The site pulls published rate data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration and AAA and runs it through a fixed set of formulas, documented on the methodology page. There's no editorial staff and no claim of special expertise beyond building the calculator correctly and keeping the data current.

Data is refreshed on a monthly basis where possible. If you spot a number that looks stale or wrong, the fastest fix is checking the "Data last updated" date shown on every state page.

How the site makes money

This site carries display advertising. Ads don't influence the numbers shown by the calculators — the formulas and data sources are the same regardless of what's advertised around them.

What I'm trying to avoid

Most EV cost calculators either bury their assumptions or use national averages dressed up as personalized results. This site shows its formulas on themethodology page, lets you swap in your own mileage and rates instead of accepting defaults, and shows the source and "last updated" date for every figure so you can judge how current it is before relying on it.

I also try to keep the writing plain. No padding a page to hit a word count, no manufactured urgency about switching to an EV. The goal is that you can check a state's numbers, run your own scenario, and leave with an answer — not a sales pitch.

Corrections

If a state's electricity or gasoline figure looks wrong, or a calculation doesn't match your own math, email [email protected]with the specifics. I'd rather fix an error than leave it live.
